Form 16 Kaise Padhein: Part A, Part B, aur AIS se Reconciliation (2026)
What you will learn
- Form 16 employer ka issued TDS certificate hai jo batata hai ki financial year me aapko kitni salary paid hui aur us par kitna tax deduct karke government ko deposit kiya gaya. Employer ko ye typically 15 June tak issue karna hota hai (previous FY ke liye) — ITR filing season isi ke baad serious hota hai.
- Part A TRACES portal se generate hota hai aur isme hota hai: employer ka TAN aur PAN, aapka PAN, employment period, aur quarterly TDS summary — kitna deduct hua aur kab deposit hua. Ye government records se aata hai, isliye ye aapke TDS credit ka authoritative proof hai.
- Part B employer ka annexure hai jisme detailed computation hota hai: gross salary (section-wise breakup), exempt allowances (jaise HRA exemption under Section 10(13A)), standard deduction, Chapter VI-A deductions (80C, 80D, etc. jo aapne declare kiye), taxable income, aur final tax computation regime ke hisaab se.

Form 16 kya hai aur kab milta hai
Form 16 employer ka issued TDS certificate hai jo batata hai ki financial year me aapko kitni salary paid hui aur us par kitna tax deduct karke government ko deposit kiya gaya. Employer ko ye typically 15 June tak issue karna hota hai (previous FY ke liye) — ITR filing season isi ke baad serious hota hai.
Agar poore saal me TDS kata hi nahi (income threshold ke neeche thi) to employer Form 16 issue karne ke liye legally bound nahi hai — us case me payslips aur AIS se filing hoti hai. Job switch kiya ho to har employer se alag Form 16 milega, aur dono ko combine karke file karna hoga.
Part A: TDS deposit ka proof
Part A TRACES portal se generate hota hai aur isme hota hai: employer ka TAN aur PAN, aapka PAN, employment period, aur quarterly TDS summary — kitna deduct hua aur kab deposit hua. Ye government records se aata hai, isliye ye aapke TDS credit ka authoritative proof hai.
Pehla check: Part A ka total TDS aapki 12 payslips ke TDS lines ke total se match hona chahiye. Agar payslips me zyada hai aur Part A me kam, to employer ne deduct karke deposit nahi kiya — serious issue, turant HR/finance escalate karo, kyunki credit aapko tabhi milega jab deposit hua ho.

Part B: salary breakup aur tax computation
Part B employer ka annexure hai jisme detailed computation hota hai: gross salary (section-wise breakup), exempt allowances (jaise HRA exemption under Section 10(13A)), standard deduction, Chapter VI-A deductions (80C, 80D, etc. jo aapne declare kiye), taxable income, aur final tax computation regime ke hisaab se.
Part B ko dhyan se padho kyunki yahi aapke ITR ka blueprint hai. Check karo: (1) regime sahi hai jo aapne choose kiya; (2) HRA exemption utna hi hai jitna aapke proofs justify karte hain; (3) saare declared deductions reflect hue hain; (4) previous employer ki salary (agar declare ki thi) included hai.
AIS aur Form 26AS: teesra data source
Annual Information Statement (AIS) incometax.gov.in par available hai aur isme aapki saari reported financial activity hoti hai: salary TDS, bank interest, dividend, securities transactions, property deals. Form 26AS focused TDS/TCS statement hai. Filing se pehle dono download karo.
Golden rule: ITR wo file karo jo teeno sources — Form 16, AIS, aur aapke actual records — se consistent ho. Department ka matching engine AIS-based hai; agar aapke ITR me AIS se kam income dikhi to mismatch notice ka risk hai. AIS me galat entry ho to portal par feedback submit karke dispute karo.
Common mismatch 1: job switch wala double counting
Job switch me sabse common gadbad: naye employer ko purani salary declare nahi ki, to dono employers ne alag-alag basic exemption aur standard deduction diya. Result: dono Form 16 individually sahi dikhte hain, lekin combined tax under-deducted hai — filing par payable amount niklega.
Fix: dono Form 16 ki income ITR me add karo, total par sahi tax compute karo (Income Tax Calculator use karo), aur balance self-assessment tax ke saath file karo. Ye surprise avoid karne ke liye agli baar new joiner form me previous income zaroor declare karo.
Common mismatch 2: bank interest aur missed income
Form 16 sirf salary cover karta hai. FD/savings interest, dividends, capital gains — ye AIS me dikhte hain lekin Form 16 me nahi. Filing me inhe skip karna sabse common notice trigger hai, kyunki department ke paas bank-reported data pehle se hai.
Savings account interest par Section 80TTA (old regime) me Rs 10,000 tak deduction hai — interest report karo, phir deduction claim karo; report hi na karna galat approach hai. Dividend income bhi ab fully taxable hai — AIS se saari entries utha kar ITR ke sahi schedules me daalo.
Refund ya payable: final math kaise karein
Total tax liability (saari income par, chosen regime se) minus total credits (Form 16 TDS + other TDS + advance tax) = final position. Negative hai to refund milega (filing + processing ke baad bank account me); positive hai to self-assessment tax pay karke hi ITR file hogi.
Worked example: salary tax Rs 1,10,000 (Form 16 TDS Rs 1,10,000) + FD interest Rs 40,000 par tax Rs 12,000 (TDS sirf Rs 4,000). Net payable Rs 8,000 — ise challan se pay karo, phir file karo. Calculator me poori income daal kar ye number filing se pehle pata hona chahiye, baad me nahi.
Pre-filing reconciliation checklist (30 minute)
(1) Form 16 Part A ka TDS = payslips ka total TDS = Form 26AS/AIS ka salary TDS — teeno match karo. (2) Part B ka regime aur deductions apne records se verify karo. (3) AIS se non-salary income list banao. (4) Income Tax Calculator me total income par final tax compute karo. (5) Refund/payable position clear karo. (6) Payable hai to self-assessment tax pehle pay karo. (7) Sab documents ek folder me — scrutiny aaye to ready ho.
Ye 30-minute exercise galat filing, refund delays, aur mismatch notices teeno se bachata hai. Form 16 ko sirf attachment ki tarah treat mat karo — ye aapke tax year ki audit report hai, padhna seekho.
