Quick answer

Enter amount and GST rate to see instant CGST/SGST or IGST breakup. Supports both inclusive and exclusive pricing.

GST (Goods and Services Tax) is India's unified indirect tax system. Every business transaction involves GST calculation—whether you're invoicing a client, purchasing inventory, or filing returns. The four standard GST rates are 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%, with the tax split between CGST+SGST (intra-state) or IGST (inter-state).

What is this calculator?

A GST Calculator helps you compute the GST amount on any transaction. Enter the amount and GST rate, and the calculator shows the taxable value, GST amount, CGST/SGST or IGST split, and total amount. It supports both exclusive (add GST on top) and inclusive (extract GST from total) calculations.

Formula

GST Exclusive (add GST):
• GST Amount = Base Amount × GST Rate / 100
• Total = Base Amount + GST Amount

GST Inclusive (extract GST):
• Taxable Amount = Total Amount / (1 + GST Rate / 100)
• GST Amount = Total Amount − Taxable Amount

For intra-state: CGST = SGST = GST Amount / 2
For inter-state: IGST = GST Amount

Example

Product worth ₹10,000 with 18% GST (intra-state): • Taxable amount: ₹10,000 • CGST @ 9%: ₹900 • SGST @ 9%: ₹900 • Total GST: ₹1,800 • Total amount: ₹11,800 If the same ₹11,800 is the inclusive price: • Taxable amount: ₹10,000 • GST: ₹1,800

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between CGST, SGST, and IGST?
CGST (Central GST) and SGST (State GST) are charged on intra-state (within same state) transactions, each at half the GST rate. IGST (Integrated GST) is charged on inter-state transactions at the full GST rate. Total tax amount remains the same.
How do I know if my transaction is intra-state or inter-state?
Compare the place of supply with the supplier's state. Same state = intra-state (CGST+SGST). Different states = inter-state (IGST). For services, place of supply rules under GST Act apply.
Which GST rate applies to my product?
GST rates depend on the HSN (Harmonised System of Nomenclature) code of the product. Common rates: 5% (essential goods), 12% (processed food, mobile phones), 18% (most services, electronics), 28% (luxury goods, cars). Check the GST rate finder on the CBIC website.
Is GST applicable on exports?
Exports are zero-rated under GST. You can either export under LUT (Letter of Undertaking) without paying IGST, or pay IGST and claim refund.
What is reverse charge under GST?
Under reverse charge mechanism (RCM), the recipient pays GST instead of the supplier. This applies to certain services like legal fees, GTA services, and purchases from unregistered dealers above ₹5,000/day.

This calculator provides estimates for standard GST rates. For composition scheme, reverse charge, or CESS calculations, consult a qualified CA or use the government GST portal.
